Raficq
Abdulla MBE
Consultant
Raficq brings a unique perspective to Consultancy Works.
A South African Asian Muslim, he has been living and working
in the UK since 1965 and has worked extensively with Christians,
Jews and Muslims in the interfaith dialogue. Alongside his
professional career, he is also a writer and broadcaster
with the BBC.
Raficq counsels individuals and advises businesses and
corporate groups on legal issues. He also looks at the effectiveness
of groups working together, particularly in the boardroom.
His strength lies in sensing the hidden issues that motivate
and trouble groups and individuals.
“In my counselling work, I
encourage personal exploration in a safe but alert way.
When appropriate I will challenge assumptions but in such
a way as to make it possible for the client to break out
in their own time. The client embarks on their own journey
and I am there as a guide and a trusted companion.”
Raficq currently mentors a number of senior academics and
executives on core values and their employment roles, but
he qualified as a barrister. After taking a degree in Jurisprudence
at Oxford, he took on many roles: company secretary in Beecham
Group plc, corporate lawyer at Lex Service plc and Harris
Queensway plc, and deputy secretary and legal advisor to
Scope. In each case he has inevitably acted as advisor,
mentor and repository of the institution’s governance.
Alongside other colleagues, he is also leading discussions
with government to initiate dialogue and create programmes
for young people to learn from positive international Muslim
role models. His work in this area is grounded in both practical
business experiences, knowledge of the various faiths, and
his work on spirituality.
